Yes, I made it finally and officially late yesterday afternoon. I
had gone through three-month seemingly-endless wait before i was given
this huge surprise the week before last, I could end this torturing
wait within days. Hooray.

 

So-and-so, certainly, he is also an unlucky human being who has
experienced such a suffer, said, "Yeah, I'm not sure... doesn't feel
like it. All I know is that I went through a very humbling
experience and now I have no self-esteem left."

 

Fortunately, I saved my self-esteem overall.

 

In the beginning, I was a bit nervous, as nervous as usual when I
faced such big circumstance. I could not stabilize my quavering
voice. After rushing through the introduction bullshit, gradually, I
picked up composure.

 

A couple hundred dollars dumped on my dressing, of course, it is
rewarding. It makes me look sharp, and my fast speaking makes me
look even sharper.

 

Division head is a tough guy as the rumor goes, but he gave me a
nice comment after presentation, "this is one of a few presentations
I really enjoyed", yet most probably, this is not but his courtesy
word.

 

Then the question part came. First, the senior Australian professor,
a renowned expert in desalination area, jumped out.

"Make clear your definitions and terms at first place to the
audience, not to assume they are experts in your specific area. And
also a glossary in the thesis is definitely necessary." (Thank you
for your kind advice.)

"How good does your experimental parameter reflect the real-world
case? "
(Since my experiment is regarded as a model experiment, this
question is very poignant.)

"What significance is your plot of geometrical coefficients? As
there is no clear trend shown in the curve, is it reproduceable in
laboratory?"
(Come on, as indicated, my done experimental is only
preliminary)

And there were a couple of others, but after all, he was not
supposed to be familiar with the dry fluid mechanics, so his
questions were not that troublesome.

 

Then here came the funnist professor in my division, he raised the
question, "with your experimental results, what do you expect the
concentration would be like in the further spreading layer? " I have
not done a single real job on further spreading, so I kept silence
for a while, pretended to think hard on the question. Almost when I
was about to organize some bullshit to cope with his question, he
started to answer his own question. Jesus Christ, you are so nice, I
like you.

 

The toughest guy came last. Division head did not hesitate to shoot
all his long reserved bullets. Starting from analytical, he gave me
a heavy punch and beat me all over. Sucks! For those unlucky
experimenters who are lucky to read to this line, I seriously urge
you hereby to think twice if you ever consider talking about
analytical or numerical in your presentation.

 

After all, he was but a serious researcher, with no intention to
kill me. And the question part concluded in the discussion among the
examination panel upon the question the head raised. I stood by,
enjoying their passionate discussion. Thank goodness, they paid no
more attention to me.

 

I was asked to stay outside the interrogation room to wait for the
trial. Not very long, I think. My supervisor stepped out and said
congratulations to me. We shook hand firmly. Sir, I really
appreciate your timely hints.Then I entered the room again to thank the panel. "Good job, keep
on! " Australian said. "Thank you very much!" I should add a sure, i
